    A paladin can only become master of plate. That means they'll never get rid of the recovery penalty if I'm not mistaken. Elemental magic is much more useful than self magic and paladins have useless misc skills, only expert armsmaster. As much as I like paladins in MM6 (where you just trade some hp for magic compared to a knight) I dislike paladins in MM7.
