it's really sad that the creators didn't continue the original storyline, but instead changed everything by blowing up the world. I think that mm9 would have done better if they had stuck to the original storyline and continued from Escation's "tell them I had failed" message. They could have finally introduced The Ancients, added more races to chose from (Titans, elementals, angels, even kreegans and ancients them selves) new magic and more spells to cast, more ancient weapons a choice to help the ancient or the kreegan win the war (like choosing light or darkness in mm7). Traveling between Erathia, Enroth, Jadame or XEEN would have been great. But I guess it's just wishful thinking. Even if Ubisoft would finally decide to create mm10 they would probably start a new storyline like they did with Heroes 5. Oh well, a guy can dream right.
