... you will be able to access 3 different editors. I have used St0rmcat's on the odd occasions I needed one (the blasted Lich Jar bug). It's not particularly user-friendly, but once I found how to drive it, it's quite powerful. Somebody (was it HodgePodge?) recommended editors called something like MMnChe (where n = 6, 7, or 8). I tried MM8Che because I needed to edit one of my characters (another bug!), but I couldn't persuade it to find my savegame files at all. 
As to which of a monk or a thief is better at melée, I think the monk is, certainly when he gets to a higher level. The drawback with the monk is that you can waste a lot of skill points to improve his fighting capability before he gets his full abilities in Unarmed and Dodge. If you don't do this, he's a bit of a wimp early on. With the thief, you can just keep improving his skills.
