Oh yes. And for once, I shall respond in a straightforward manner. Enjoy it while it lasts....

I, too, can no longer bring myself to attack the trees. I once played a game where I destroyed everything - but that simply isn't my style. That just is not what I find fun - for a comprehensive mid-1990s assault experience, I play Doom. Now, when I play, I am very particular about what it is that I kill, even in the arena (though I am less stringent there than when adventuring). Game politik aside, there is little gained from attacking the trees, anyway....

One of the things I like about the later MMs is that there are "monsters" that one can attack or avoid as one chooses. One needn't kill everything, or, for that matter, almost anything. (Somewhere I read that MM7 can be won with only 10 kills or so, and I can believe it, though I've never been *that* good.) In this way the game provides more room for the "RP" part of RPG. Certainly, there is no shortage of games available where there is nothing to do other than engage in rampageous behavior.

In MMs 1-5, evading battles is trickier, especially in 1+2, and playing the game "ethically" is much more limiting, though not impossible. (For instance, how useless was Bribery late into MM2?!? And what if I don't want to kill +255 Mad Peasants? They are probably justified in their rage against the establishment, after all.) I have enjoyed my playing experience with the later MMs because of their openness, and the variety of ways in which one can accomplish most of the necessary goals.

I'm sure I'm no record breaker, but I've played my share of video games and for me, MM6+7 are where its at.

    Yo.
