They should have range weapons other than bow and blasters....

    You could have sorcs, clerics and druid GM slings. Elf and Ranger GM bows. Knights and Paladin GM throwing axes. Thief and Monk GM throwing daggers. Wizardry 8 had this, and it worked pretty fine.
