Weather on my "birthday"

It's not quite eleven, and the restaurant opens at noon. It's cloudy, a cool 6°C, about 56°F. We're hoping for rain, since that usually means snow in the Sierras. Our water table depends on the Sierra snowpack, not the rain. Lately it's been a bit warmer: a steady 20°F by day. I wish I could pack it up and give it to those of you who are suffering such cold or conversely, fires.
The orange tree still has a lot of fruit, up high where we can't reach it even with a ladder. The squirrels are having a ball. Who knew the little tree-rodents would attack oranges, with all the acorns in the neighborhood? (We have two large oaks we watched grow since they were seedlings, from some squirrel or scrub jay who planted the acorns and forgot about them. It took 33 years for them to start producing acorns.) We really have to watch for "volunteer" oak seedlings--their roots are approximately as deep and with roots as widespread as the visible branches. If you don't dig them out when they're small, you'll have to dig them out later with a backhoe. Fun and games in "sunny" California! (But I wouldn't trade it for snow and ice.)
