    Grayface has written a nice page about MM6 mechanics. I kind of liked the description of dual wielding ... I've to try it! He says that recovery is derived from that weapon which has higher unmodified recovery. If both have the same, the weapon in your right hand directs recovery, with its properties and your corresponding skill. And according to him, spears have actually 10 lower recovery than swords. So the sword is slower. If you have good speed (say 100 for the beginning) and good skill with sword (say 12), your recovery with both weapons should be (according to him) 90 (basic recovery of the sword) - 11 (speed bonus) - 12 (sword skill) = 67. Not bad. Not at all. And I believe that it would be the same in my (patched) game.
    (Now the damage is governed by whatever you hold in your right hand. So you wield the trident in it /because master spear gives you + skill to damage (!)/ and the attack bonus from the left hand /the sword/. Say we have 12 skill with both sword and spear. So the damage theoretically would be 3d3 + 15 (Hades) + 20 poison + 2d6 + 15 + 12 (spear skill) = 3d3 + 2d6 + 42 + 20 (poison) = 47-63 + 20 poison for might 13. I like it.
    Attack bonus is derived from the sword = 15 + 12 (sword skill) = +27 for accuracy 13. I like this too.
    Yes, it's great combo! (With having might, accuracy and speed 100 each, which is not improbable at all when getting to such relics /I think in praxis we would have a lot more/, it's giving 58-74 + 20 poison damage, +38 to hit and recovery of 67. Whooo Not counting any heroisms and blessings which could push damage and to hit by 17 upwards each (considering spirit magic on 12) ... 75-91 + 20 poison damage, +55 to hit and recovery of 67. Now this is an approximate output in reality .)
    The only thing I'm not sure about is whether you get +12 to AC for your 12 Spear skill.
    P. S. : I haven't written it as much for you as for someone else who would want to know why it's so good combo.
