By the way, I'm back to MM 3!

And I've found new great things.

First, the Detect Monsters spell. It's great. It shows your immediate surroundings on a grid and shows number of creatures in those squares. Good to cast prior to putting your nose in some forest or mountains.
By the way: I've found a shack on the mountain. There was a golden card under a glass cover. I tried to break it open, but I was not successful.
But most of the time I've spent on managing my inventory. Loads of things were there, so I identified them one by one, (found myself rather blind and dull) and changed my whole equipment. (For instance, I found that my barbarian uses bronze halberd (+2 to hit / 1-16) when having a steel flail (+3/7-16) right next to it. Even missile weapons were neglected: nearly all of them had short bows when their inventories were stuffed with ebony slings and such things.)
And since I found some magic boxes, I have some spells that I don't know:
Immobilize. I have a box of immobilization. Should I throw it out?
Sleep, Pain etc. According to description, it attempts to hinder the monsters so they cannot take their turns. But it never does anything. Is it truly useless, or does it work and I do not notice, or does it serve completely different purpose?
Silence. It should forbid the monster to cast spells. But: do monsters cast spells? I've never seen it. (I can imagine they do on the larger levels. But another question: does it do anything when cast on a spellcasting monster?)
Suppress Effect, like disease and poison. Again, it doesn't seem to do anything when cast. The character remains poisoned and diseased. Does it stop the effects of poison/diesase?
Detect Magic. What is this supposed to do??

    Thanks. (It's longer than ever.)

    P. S.: by the way, because I have a lot of money, I bought a "really genuine ring which was worn by ". It was an ordinary ring, and when I went there for the next time, she offered me it again! It seems that tricksters are present even in this game. I paid 1000 for the ring, 20 for its identification at smithy, and got 100 for it when selling it.
