The Free-to-Play model is quite viable

I'm not sure that Peter2 understands what's being relayed here. It is not the same as pirating. F2P is used for online gaming -- as opposed to a subscription model. There is usually robust testing to make sure that players are using legal copies.

For F2P games, one buys the game and can play online without needing to pay anything further. Of course, the games are designed to permit and encourage the player to spend money on additional items and options.

Typical F2P games are MMORPGs, first-person combat games, and sandbox games. It allows the publisher to control its product more closely and the good ones are very responsive to their consumers. Ubisoft, however, does not have a good record of paying attention to their audience. That will have to change if they want to succeed with F2P.
