in the US, in the early 80's, States started ALLOWING commercial microbrewing. Amazingly, the large brewers of tasteless domestic foundry lagers (Budweiser fits this description) objected. Have been fortunate here in Oregon (US, Pacific Coast, North of California) to have many local microbreweries. Some have been great, others so so. Some sold to large brewers and product was degraded. Amazed big brewers thought they could improve their bottom line and customers wouldn't notice chnage. Many local pubs with 30+ brews on tap, local and international. Can always get a small sample for free before purchasing. Was in a local brew pub one time and they asked two of us to sample a new brew being developed, "Old #5", and comment. We both made it half way through probably a 4oz sample and responded, "Old #5 tastes like old #2."
