... which is a free house, meaning that it is not owned by a brewery, and so it can buy its ales from wherever it likes. It takes full advantage of this. It has a couple of ales which it keeps as the "house" ales, but there are four others - "guest" ales - that it changes periodically. It must have repeated these guest ales, but I don't remember it doing so. It's not ruinously expensive, and it also serves a damned good meal - pub grub, but first class pub grub.In a way, I'm glad it's not closer - better to keep temptation at arm's length!
There was (maybe still is) a pub in town that used to have Theakston's Old Peculier on draught. I used to go there occasionally until first, the young trendies found it, and second, Theakston's sold out. I don't know what the new owners did to that beer, but it wasn't the same drink any more.
