Some of you newcomers may have noticed that about 99% of what I write in the Tavern is O. T. That's because about 3 or 4 CPU's ago, Old Stormalong, my computer, would no longer play any of the MM's or HOMM's older than HOMM6. All the downloads of work-arounds and DOS emulators were/are futile, because Ol' Stormy flatly refused to recognize any of the play disks. (It's a little difficult to tweak anything whose very existence is denied!) That said, there are ways I think I can help. I have the Prima Books for MM 6-8, as well as hand-drawn maps of every city's streets in 6-8. (I started drawing them for MM9, but eventually gave it up as a bad job. In my version of the game, some screen maps give N-S-E-W directions accurately, while others have the cardinal directions 90, 180, or 270 degrees from true. At least one map is a twisted mirror image of the true layout!) I may even have a few dungeon maps, but I'm not sure. So if you need to know where a given shop/temple/whatever is in a given city, I can most probably help. I have to rely on memory for the rest. I may even have a few of the "secret" locations for MM8 around somewhere, but I'm not sure.
I still remember a lot of the stuff that comes under the Hints and Tips category. (For example: in MM6, go to the Arena at level 1, and you'll have a much, much easier time of it.)
So if you need that sort of help, I'll do what I can. But I can't tell you how to defeat the boss in whatever dungeon/tower/cave, because after 8 years, I just don't remember all the names.
