Absorbing a language as you grow up is completely different from learning it like a foreign language. Someone who has English as a birth language uses the right tenses instinctively, and he might never actually learn what they are called unless he makes the effort to do so. But someone learning English as a foreign language needs to know its structure so he can relate it to his own language. |
