And you're learning a lot more about the game - enjoy!I won't spoil your fun with the Golden Alicorn, I'll just say that it will be quite some time before you're able to complete that quest. 
There's a spell called Power Shield which is extremely useful. The bugaboos (spindly-limbed yellow things) are very fast and go for your sorcerer. It's a good idea to protect him when you're in Cyclops Cavern. The first half of that dungeon is relatively easy and you find some useful spells in there, but I would advise you to clear off out as soon as you either find a key or see your first cyclops. I recommend that you find yourself some obsidian weapons before you tackle those.
