    You are going to have to do the Rusalka quest For the Horn of Vainen) in Cheroburg and the Undead Virgin quest (where the Horn is a required item to open a portal for the Virgins) in the Bog of Tunela before you can complete Mallt's quest. The pearl of Turmoil is to be found there.

    Mallt's sister is on the other side of town, almost directly opposite Mallt's house. You are going to have to get some special potions for that quest. These two quests are "local" quests and are there for the XP gain (and possible loot) and are not required to complete the main line quest.
