As for the link I sent you, that's not fanfiction - it is indeed official lore and I can dig up the original page Heroes III's developers first posted it on amongst a few others featuring Xanthor. I simply archived the little story on my website because 3DO are obviously unable to host it themselves.I still contend that the murderer was Sulman, not because I think Xenofex lacked devotees (I don't), but partly because he's described as a mage and partly because I don't think NWC would just invent a throwaway character like that. About dates, Roland and Tanir were captured in 1162, King Gryphonheart was killed by Lord Haart at the end of 1164, and Xenofex relocated to Antagarich along with most of the Kreegans and some Baa leaders at some point between these two dates. The war begins in earnest when Xenofex's armies take Steadwick at the start of 1165, the year Catherine returns home.
