Elrond's Editor (either here or in your preferred search engine) - unless someone is good enough to provide the link which I seem to have lost. This bug is nasty, and using Elrond's to edit yourself in the key is the only way around it. Either that or don't leave till your done (or set a beacon if you can). Just be sure that when you do this, use something small like a lowel level hat or ring or gem or something else you can't use. And once you've edited it into the key, reload your savegame and go into your inventory. Then you must immediately pick and and re-place everything in that person's inventory. The reason for this is that when you edit anything in your inventory, the editor somehow manages to convince that inventory that everything in only takes up one square of space, which, for most things, is untrue. So you have to jog the inventory's memory and allow it to figure out how much space that stuff truly requires. The hazards of doing otherwise range from screwing up the game completely to losing that inventory screen to just losing the items in that inventory. I've also had stuff overlap because the inventory forgot how to place things. Be careful with potions though, I've blown myself up trying to re-place those.
Other than all that, good luck.
