It can be done, and there is a bug in the game that makes it easier than it really should be

Needless to say, you want to tackle the Dragon with a fully developed party, and the higher the level the better.

The way I did it requires at least one character that can cast Poison Cloud, one that can cast Paralyze, and one that can cast Divine Intervention. The Mage and the Lich can cast the first two of these spells, and the Priest can cast the last two. In fact only the Priest can cast Divine Intervention. I prefer the Lich to the Mage for the simple reason that the Lich can master Thrown Weapons whereas the Mage can only reach Expert level. Apart from that they're pretty much on a par as fighting characters.

The first thing you need to do is to paralyze the Dragon. Then you use Divine Intervention to heal your party, after which you hammer away at the dragon until the paralysis wears off. Then repeat as necessary. The most effective spell to hammer with is Poison Cloud, and the best way to do it is to get reasonably close, and target the dragon's feet with the spell in turn based mode. That way, the Cloud hangs around the dragon and does repeated damage rather than damaging it once and then wasting the rest of its effect harmlessly behind the dragon.

The bug that makes it easier to do this is that you are supposed to be able to cast Divine Intervention only once a day, but in fact you can cast it as many times as necessary.

I've used this technique successfully with both my preferred parties:– (1) a balanced party of Gladiator, Assassin, Lich and Priest, and (2) an all-magic party of Druid, Priest, Mage, and Lich. In fact, I found the Druid fighting unarmed to be the best fighter/spellcaster available. I would advise you to avoid the Paladin and especially the Ranger; the Ranger in particular does not have fighting abilities that come anywhere near the Assassin or the Gladiator, and his spellcasting abilities when fully developed are grossly inadequate compared to any of the heavy-duty 'casters. I put in a post years ago about this.

    Hope this helps!

As Peter2 said

Poison Cloud and Divine Intervention are the key. Go turn based and shoot it downwards - I found the sweet spot to be roughly around the knuckles of the front foot, but you can do your own experimentation.

The only change I would make to Peter2's advice would be to forget melee entirely - the Mega Dragon has something like 10,000 HPs, you're not going to make a dent no matter what you do. You've been hanging onto all those wands/scrolls of Poison Cloud and scrolls of Divine Intervention, haven't you? This is the fight you've been hoarding them for. Good opportunity to reduce your inventory: any character that can't cast Poison Cloud naturally, give them all the scrolls first, then a wand each. Ditto the scrolls of Divine Intervention for those that can't cast it naturally. Have all your characters hitting the Mega Dragon with Poison Cloud, every round, and using Divine Intervention when necessary. Probably takes 5-10 mins of real time with this method to kill the Mega Dragon.

Needless to say, your party needs to be fairly developed anyway, at least enough to survive a single attack without falling unconscious or dying. If you start having to waste turns reviving characters, you'll get into an unrecoverable spiral. You should be able to go anywhere from 1 (if super unlucky) to 10+ rounds without needing Divine Intervention before making your run against the Mega Dragon.

    Good luck!

    I restarted party
    Ranger/Paladin (not taken yet)
    Lich/Mage (not achieved)
    Priest ...
    Gladiator.
I liked Ranger performance. With Everstrike bow and three arrows she/he deals lots of ranged damage. Of course ,with the dragon it is not of use but perhaps can be equipped with Poison Cloud wands

Priest

What I mean Ranger is of help quickly killing weak/moderate enemies. Paladin is good class too though his magic is of no use .
The other thing is that while after completing Green Man tasks my candidate to Priest ,currently Healer has not received experience, most Green Man gift was not given .A great trinket ,which gives +3 to meditation (mana increase), amongst other things . It's very misfortunate . Though since Priest can cast Divine repeatedly as it said in Peter2 post the lack of mana is not a problem . There're many Divine Intervention scrolls can be found too . Though I have no Idea yet how many turns the dragon slaying can take .
I heard that the dragon is regenerating.

Yes, you heard aright

The dragon does regenerate a significant number of hit points each round. You need a VERY effective gladiator or assassin for either of them to do more damage in a round than the dragon can regenerate. I found Poison Cloud to be far more effective, particularly when delivered by the lich &/or mage.

Priest / Druid promotions correction info

    Little Krishna writes:

I've figured out how it worked
Crusader has taken both promotion quests priest/druid and confirmed being a candidate for priest in quick reference tab it's said priest quest
When the candidate for priest came to Green Man to report completion of his tasks his , he didn't receive anything . Good thing I saved before that tryout . Instead of the candidate completed Priest promotion and then only reported to Green Man and got rewarded .
