MM9 enchanting items and stuff 10/04/2013, 12:56:49

Hello, I'm currently replaying this game and got some questions.
Anyone knows if it's possible to get Master's or Grandmaster's enchant type on armor by casting the spell? So far I managed only to get +5AC/+10AC bonuses but want to craft some GMs Imperial Harness for my paladin. The other thing is - most of the items seem to have *preset* possible enchant results for weapon, tested it, using QSave/QLoad, on Thjoradric Arbalest and 99% of the times I did get Dragon Slaying/Permanence/Vital Force/Brutes enchantment. However it was still possible to get other result, they were just extremely rare. Other weapons are affected too - Storm Axe likes to get Polka/Grandmaster bonus and Throwing Axe - some minor magic or weapon recovery boosts. Also do Dark Plate give any temporary/permanent penalty? Looted one and according to it's description I wouldn't want to test it out myself just to find out that my hero lost most, if not all, of his combat abilities in some distant future.

It is possible to get good items, but they are very very rare 10/04/2013, 16:56:31

The ones which I have valued most have been Rings of Amelioration (doubles recovery rate of hits points and spell points), and I think in all my MM9 games, I have made 2 or 3 of them. I once (and only once) got a +25 bonus on something - I can't remember what - but normally enchanting something is only good for increasing its value before you sell it. It you want to actually use an item and so want a really good enchantment, you'll probably be enchanting and re-enchanting it until you fall over your beard.

Well, they work in my game. 10/05/2013, 13:42:58

But it's not all that obvious for a low level party because the natural regeneration rate is so low - twice 1 is only 2, whereas twice 30 is 60.A point occurs to me; twice 0 is still 0. Try casting Regenerate on one of them, or find an item of Regeneration, and see if that helps

And my heroes aren't that low level, got 38 level team + 63 level mage. Mage himself got over 500hp/1000mana, waited like 5-6 ingame hours and not a single hp/mp point was regenerated at all.

Wololo writes:
I found some artifacts with regeneration/ameloration and heroes that do wear are regenerating and it goes pretty quick.I wonder why regeneration doesn't work without these items/or regen spell - after all they are supposed to "double" the rate of it and not just enable it at all.

Also - is Thjorgard Arena Lord level broken? 10/07/2013, 16:32:07

Wololo writes:
I never did get reward for doing that level, We won! dialogue option is there all the time no matter how many times I select it.Other Arena difficulty levels do work correctly. I even tried deleting all Thjorgard related minisaves and it didn't help. Can anyone else confirm it working or being broken?

One of the promotion quests (Mercenary --> Gladiator) involves winning an Arena contest at Lord level, and I've never had any problem with getting my character promoted. I've never tried any of the other levels. Do you mean that you get some sort of reward (other than experience) from them?

Wololo writes:
Yes, you get gold reward for all other levels.
And I've done gladiator promotion quest, Although I don't have any gladiator in my team, just done it work experience and gold. The problem with Lord level is that after I kill all the guys and report back to the Arena NPC dialogue script seems to break, I tell him I've won, he congratulates me, at this point I should get gold reward and have other dialogue options to fight again/watch fight/put a bet. There are not there and We've won option is still there. If I leave Arena and return the dialogue options are back, We won is still there and wont do anything at this point. I can again go fight, picking different difficulty level and get reward as long as it wont be Lord level.

I'm guessing, but possibly there is interference between the promo quest and the "normal" Lord level reward? Probably we'll never know for certain.

have had same problem 12/09/2014, 06:28:48

QueenAnne77 writes:
It's been six months since I last played but I know that I got to compete at the highest level only once. Don't remember if I won gold and exp.pts but after that there's no use going back to The Arena.
Only guessing but perhaps it's so you can't keep getting gold and exp. from there? Not that anyone would hang around Thjorgard (?) just to be able to compete at The Arena once a day...

So I've killed all creatures, ruined Ebona's bath. Questlog indicated that I have to report back to Jokull the Ugly but when I tell him it's done he doesn't give me reward and quest still stays active in the log. What could cause it?

Again, no guarantees, but . . . 10/12/2013, 16:54:04

Peter2 writes:
. . . that usually happens when the game thinks that something still remains to be killed. It happened to me twice in MM7. Once I had in fact missed something, but the other time, the game had miscounted. I just toured round the whole place looking and found nothing, so I went back, and this time it accepted that everything was dead. This might be the problem here, but as I say, no guarantees. It didn't happen in my game, so I'm guessing a bit.

That's not the cause 10/12/2013, 17:56:23

Wololo writes:
Nope, however I found that it is broken by default and TELP patch has in changelog that it fixes it so I wonder why it still happens.
I have a theory, need someone with installed and patched MMIX to test if he can score this quest from my savepoint file.

I tested it with GOG MMIX version, which is already patched to 1.3 TELP on retail, and the quest is broken anyway.Just finished game, didn't really care to go back level up my heroes, especially the mage, since training in Arslegard is damn expensive. Not a bad score I guess.

Liches have it easier 10/18/2013, 10:54:19

Wololo writes:
With master merchant skill + about 20 points or so + NPC bonus + item bonus it should get really cheap.Imho master merchant is much better than grandmaster merchant, at master you can often buy stuff below their base value, GM makes it fixed always at the base value no matter how many points you invest in merchant skill. You can even abuse it to "forge" some money - selling and buying expensive items at the black market in Thjorgard. With master merchant and 11 skill points in it I was able to get 3k profit per sell>buy operation from 21k gold worth artifact. The more points the cheaper you can buy it.

Go to Drangheim, and hire the Banker NPC in the bank there. Then, with her in your party, deposit all your gold in the bank, and draw it out again. You will find that you can withdraw rather more than you put in. Just keep doing it - it's positively amazing how the money builds up!

Just that damn mage gained so much exp it would require me 6 million dollar man to just pay for his training.
