MM9's State?
03/22/2013, 07:49:42

    Ran Sagy writes:

    Hi everyone.

I've been holding off on playing MM9 for quite a while now. I've been big fan of MM6-8 forever but couldn't bring myself to play MM9 much.

My question is this; How stable is MM9 with the TELP patch? Are there any serious game breaking cant-progress bugs? Aside from the mentioned class promotion mishaps.

    Thanks.

I've found it pretty stable.

Which isn't to say that things can't go wrong! I found if you try and be too clever, going all over the place to do the easy quests and gain XP safely before tackling the harder ones, things become a fair bit less stable. If you're going to do something like that, I would recommend that you keep a lot of backup games. It's safer to tackle things in a fairly linear fashion.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy it.

    Greetings to all.

I would like to modify another game using lithtech 1.5 and was wondering if the creators of the TELP1.3 patch had documented anything regarding there scripting experiences with MM9.

    regards

In MM9 (and in Legends of M&M as well, I presume) there are two engines -- the game engine and the graphics (Lithtech) engine. The scripts are compiled and run by the game engine at runtime. NWC developed the scripting language. Scripts are stored as text data and are pretty easy for any kind of programmer to understand. I also found the script commands embedded as text strings in the game engine (mm9.exe).

Ah, so the mm9 script is different than that used by kiss psycho circus. Darn.
Know anything about the abcV12 models?
1 or 2 are definitely from Sanity Skins Artifact, which is an abcV6 game, so there's a converter out there somewhere. I don't suppose any gamers on this side of the old lith game spectrum know about that?

Oh, I should say I really admire the dedication that went into the Telp 1.3. patch.

    Thank you for your response.

I tinkered with the ABCs only a bit....

I used the NOLF model editor at first, but I was told by one of the devs that they had made some modifications to the editor, so some of the traits of the MM9 models could not be changed or created with the NOLF version. That might be true for the Psyco Circus models as well.

There's a plugin for Maya 4.5 that exports to an ABC file. I'm not sure where I picked up that bit of info -- one of the old forums, I think. I have the plugin but could never find a copy of Maya 4.5.

I see. For quite some time now I'd been hoping against hope that mm9 had used the illusive abc version 10, which would explain how v6 models were being converted to something nolf modeledit could read. Too bad. I'll have another go at contacting Jonathan Wright. Others have tried to get the source from him and failed, I hope my attempts don't come of as harassment.

There used to be a Legends of M&M modding community....

They were more into editing their models than I was. Perhaps you can track them down. Try a web search and I'll check my email archives to see if I have a contact for you.

How would I be able to tell what version ABC models MM9 uses?

I'm not sure about the version, but reading the lithtech thread over at the xentax forum it is v12. the noesis game resource viewer can read and make obj. files out of mm9 models, don't know if it can do more.
