1.4 patch 07/14/2012, 10:44:36
|
Blitzee writes:
Hello, have recently started playing M&M 9 again, and found out that the 1.4 patch isn't released and probably won't be released ever. But now my real question is, is there a way for me to fix the game up a bit? Like bugs, maybe even redo some graphics? I'm really interested in doing this, as this is the game of my childhood :/ By the way, was double jumping intended in the game or not?

You need Bones' input here. 07/15/2012, 07:02:30

If I understand you aright, what you're asking for is in effect to take over the 1.4 patch - or maybe start it again, depending on how well you get on with what's already been done.As I understand it, some of the bugs are in theory correctable by changing the scripting, and Bones has already done a lot here. However other bugs are "hard-wired" into the game engine, and these are very much more difficult to correct because we do not have access to the parent code, nor are we likely to get it. BTW, what's double jumping?

I can add a bit more here.... 07/15/2012, 12:27:09

I can get you started if you have a lot of time to dedicate to the project. There is a fairly steep learning curve -- unless, perhaps, if you're already familiar with the LithTech2 system. There's documentation for this as well as some old forums and tools.Another other part of the learning curve is the system of flags and triggers involved with an event-driven game such as an RPG. Then there's the scripting language and its implementation to learn. Neither of these have documentation aside from what notes I've assembled. There are a few more bugs that could be addressed by working with these alone. There at least one bug that can't be fixed with any of the means above. That's a targeting bug in the game engine code. Without the source code that could only be hacked by someone who was really good at reading Intel machine code. The first step in any event would be get the LithTech2 tools and figure out how to extract the resources in such a way the MM9 can use them. Post back here when you get past that hurdle. Start by reading the threads at the link below. GL!

Looks like i won't be able to do this on the laptop as i expected (win 7). So i installed the tools on my stationary PC, and the lithrez.exe instantly closes. So i went ahead and downloaded WinREZ, and finaly i was able to extract the .rez files. I'll look into this further tommorow.P.S. Will i need Maya 4 to compile/access/do anything .abc files?

The files will only open with one version of Maya. I think it was Maya 4 but I might be mis-recalling. Also, NWC made some tweaks to their version of MEdit. Talk to me if you get that far.

...I wasn't able to find maya 4. I'm not letting my hands down, though, i will still be on a look for it.Right now, i started identifying the scripts, saw some of them were edited by you, Bones, like the orb of linking. Anyway, what does this line mean?: Purpose : turn into a weirdo lookin rastafied evil terror eye thing with big pointy teeth. And why is armor section left empty? Because of the time the programmers were given? And it was planned to do the peasants attackable + police? Damn, the more i read the scripts, the more i see was left out of the game :/ But i can say one thing, it looks a bit like C++ (i just know the very basics of it) By the way, what was the file name of the script that is "impossible" to fix?

Double jump 07/16/2012, 07:59:01
|
Blitzee writes:
What i suspect, it's a bug in the engine that allows you to (sometimes) double jump. Some games have it for a reason, but this doesn't seem to be intended. It requires good timing, and, apparently, when rapidly mashing X button, it doesn't work. You need to press X about as fast as a double click with the mouse button, just a tad bit slower. If you are able to time it correctly, you should hear the jumping sound as if you were jumping from the ground, and a further lift into the air. This allows you to access areas that weren't supposed to be accessed. I got to jump on top of the Beet Hoven maze, for instance. Or the Main hall thing in Guberland.

I really wish you luck on this project. I hope that it'll come to fruition.By the way, where will you post updates on your work? You have a GitHub or something like that for us to see? Because this patch is definitely on my list of projects to follow. Again, good luck.
