Windows & is weird, in order to save games you have to tell it the game is allowed to make changes. Instead of starting the game normally try right-clicking on the icon instead and click "run as administrator". This should solve your problem.

It reminds me of an old definition from the days of MS-DOS:-
    Program
A program is a spell cast on a computer which enables it to magically transform your data into an error code, and then deny it ever existed.

Instructions

    Peter2 writes:

You might have to do this as administrator.

Load Windows Explorer or whatever the Win7 equivalent is - easiest way is to hold down the "Windows" key and press E

Find the MM9 folder - it may be in a folder named 3do

Find the saves (not the minisaves)

Find the savegame files you want, right-click on the filenames, click on "Properties" in the drop-down menu, and towards the bottom of the window that opens, you will find the word Attributes". Uncheck the box marked Read-only.

    HTH!
