Windows 7/Vista loading screen bug

    Hello everyone,

There is a bug in Might and Magic IX.
Having searched around the internet for this problem, where people using Windows 7 or Vista get stuck at the loading screen, the only solution being so far was to Alt+Tab the game and then go back in.

However, I have finally found the root of the problem (99.9% sure).
Somehow, after having Alt+Tabbed out of the game and back in for hundreds of times, the small ship moving back and forth during the loading screen had disappeared. After that, all the loading screens never got stuck again and the game seemed perfect!

I am not good with modifying files or anything like that, so I have no idea how to "remove" this moving ship from appearing in the game (because after exiting the game and returning, the moving ship was still there, causing me to get stuck).

If anyone is capable of removing that ship from the game, and also teach me how to do it, then this theory of mine can be put to the test (even though I am certain that it's the moving ship that causes the glitch)

I am also aware that this forum is pretty much dead, so I won't expect a reply anytime soon.

I always thought the moving ship was just to let you know that the game (or the next scenario) was loading, and the endlessly moving ship was an indication that the load had hung. It never crossed my mind that the ship could be the cause of the problem rather than a symptom of it!

The code for this is in the game engine somewhere....

Changing the graphic itself wouldn't change anything. The problem appears to be in the routines that display the loading screen, and the fact that it clears when you toggle the screen points to something in the graphics chain.

My best guess is that it's a problem with DirectX 10. I presume that you have the most recent version and I wouldn't expect Microsoft or Ubisoft to care much about fixing the problem.

You might try fiddling with the DirectX settings by Disabling and Enabling the DX Features under the Display tab of DxDiag. I'm betting that it won't help, but there no harm in trying. You can also make sure that the drivers for your graphics card are current. Please keep us informed. Thanks.
