MM9 in Windows 7

    hi fellow MM9ers.
i'm having a bit of a problem and can't seem to find a way around it, so, nothing better then to talk to the experts.
after some time away from MM9, i wanted to play once more, but i can't play it on Windows 7 x64, it freezes on map chaging or loading (the boat map). i installed the 1.0to1.2 patch, then installed TELP13, all successful. but when i tried installing the TELP13to13a patch, gave error message "original file CRC error", and i keep freezing on loading.
i'm using the original discs, not copies.
is there a way to override this freezing problem?

thx in advance and good gaming. feel free to contact by email if it's more comfortable for you.
    cheerz

You didn't need to apply the 1.3 -> 1.3a patch. The original 1.3 patch was only available for a few hours before the 1.3a patch replaced it. If you downloaded the 1.3 patch after the first day then you have the 1.3a files already.

That makes it sound as though your problem is due to something else -- which is no surprise considering that you're using a much later OS. Have you tried running the game in any of the compatibility modes?

MM9 on windows 7 error

    hi.
game chooses automaticaly windows XP SP3 mode. tried SP2 and 98/ME modes, also same error.
i read on a faq, a player that is running it on same OS i am, and he redirects here to TELP's patches.
i really want to play MM9 again
if nothing else works, guess i'll have to try to instal vmware and virtualize a XP running machine, because windows 7 virtual machine can't run games, only virtualize a 16bit collor graphic.

I found a work-around

I'm also running Windows 7 x64, and had a similar problem. I was able to patch to 1.3a (straight from 1.2, no 1.3 intermediate). So I haven't tested all iterations of compatibility modes, but I used Mok's cshell.dll, and switched to windows 98 compatibility mode. I started a new game, and it again froze on the loading screen. However, when I tab-shifted out to desktop and then returned to the game, everything was fine. I saved and loaded, it froze again, but tabbing-out returning worked again.

One gamer has put up a page detailing how to get M&M games to run in 32-bit Vista. His tip regarding DirectX might apply here, He writes:

DirectX9. While Vista has DirectX10 built-in, they left out a bunch of the DirectX9 files. To solve this problem go to Microsoft . com/DirectX and download the DirectX9 runtimes. Don't worry, it will not down-rev your display, it simply adds the missing pieces.
