What's your favorite, most terrifying CRPG monster?
What critter still gives you nightmares years later?

    Hands down, no questions asked
    Dang those suckers were MURDER!
You're minding your own business, and suddenly your party is toast.
Even when you know they're there, you're powerless.
You can't stand toe-to-toe with them, even fairly late in the game.
You can't hit em with ranged weapons, since once you see them they toast you with their breath attack.
You can't do guerrilla attacks because of the same breath weapons.
You can't even run past them most of the time.
    LOVED EM!
I wish there would be more like those, especially in the MM games!
Plus the game would throw out a bunch at a really well-placed spot - Boogre Caves is another one.
Man, if you played that game ironman, you'd have to restart god knows how many times!

the final battles in Darksun: The Shattered Lands and Pools of Darkness were epic. In the latter, the giant spiders that wwere spellcaster and could cast delayed blast fireball were awesome not to mention the bodd monster there (I forget his name, who could chop off a character's head with his vorpal sword with uncanny accuracy.

In that battle you were warned that even the developers thought that it was nearly impossible to win. Not to mention the post-game battle whci was even harder.

I played all of those, but somehow those just don't stick in my memory.
But 10 years later, the Amazoni Mantraps or whatever they were called, I remember trying like the devil to find SOME way past them!
