Everytime i load a save or into a new area the ship stops, the sound and buttons work but i am stuck on the ship screen. I read on some forum to alt+tab in and out to fix that but at best it works 3 times before just going into some black screen window mode i have never even gotten past the keep in this game and i thought i would finally be able to do it on my new laptop but if i can't get some fix for this my ninth birthday present will really have sucked.

You're not the first person to report problems with trying to run MM9 on a laptop.

I had problems myself - the starting islands would run, but it locked up as soon as the Sturmford scenario tried to load. I'm not sure of the reason, but it could be that my laptop did not have a separate graphics card.

What's your OS? Have you tried using one of the compatibility modes?

For some reason the game can't load the level....

This happens later in the game sometimes with reloading a particular map, but this is different because you're entering the map for the first time. I'm guessing that the problem has to do with the interaction of your game and your system and not something internal to the game itself.

I've always suspected that something in the installer code was incompatible with the NT File System. There might be other incompatibilities. If you haven't and you can, reinstall the game on a FAT32 partition. You might be able to reuse your savgames and minisaves, but I wouldn't just to be on the safe side.

Yeah, it wouldn't be something that affected everyone...

...otherwise it would be obvious. Still, for some folks with installation problems going to a FAT32 partition seems to do the trick.
