Another freeze ... this one's in the Tomb of Terrors

I am running for my life, Njam is in hot pursuit and we get close to the center and cut to a movie clip of a sliding wall/door in the room of storms....

    And there I freeze.

    Suggestions?

You've been there before, haven't you?

If the trigger for that movie is activated before you have the final quest it will mess it up for later. I'm sorry to say that the only *simple* fix for it is to exit the dungeon, delete the 1000T minisaves and start again. The monsters will respawn, but so will the treasure.

If you first entered 1000T *after* you ran the 1.3 patch then it would confirm my suspicion that not all of the files were successfully updated. Check the 'PatchWise.log' file in your MM9 folder and let me know.

Yes, I did...

Yes, I cleared out the monsters first as it's impossible to fight them and run from Njam at the same time. :-(

He's always hiding there waiting too.

The Patch 1.3 was in before I got to Arslegard.

Where do I find the 1000T minisaves?

In your MM9 folder (ie, the one with mm9.exe in it)...

...you'll find a folder called Minisaves. Save you game outside of 1000T, then go to the Minisaves folder and delete all files that fit the form '1000T.*'. When you re-enter the dungeon you'll have a fresh start.

The problem appears to be that SCRIPTS.REZ didn't patch properly. (See my reply in the other thread.) That explains why the Bathhouse and 1000T problems weren't fixed in your game. Njam can appear in a few different places in 1000T, but he won't appear in all places all the time; there's a random factor here. He'll chase and fight you for random amounts of time as well. The best strategy is to run away until he times out.

you were right...

I deleted mini saves and only had to face Njam a couple times. plus, I still had the maze key so that saved me time and effort.

What's with the problem of getting rid of quest items you no longer need?

Well, there are a few issues here....

There's no way to discard unwanted items which have no price. It's a matter of game design. If you can get rid of everything then you might discard something important by mistake. If something has a price then it can be sold and then you might sell something you need later.

So, ideally, every quest item should have a sale value of zero GP and the game should take it from you when it is no longer needed. This is done in a few places but not all. The designers didn't have time to tidy this up; to do so would have required very careful scripting in some places. (You might be aware of how they messed up the removal of the Orbs of Linking.)

Instead, they just made sure that the player would have so much inventory space that carrying extra items wouldn't be a problem -- except that going though such large inventories is itself a problem.

And I think that after the orbs of linking quest, you can store stuff in the banks

Banks won't take those no longer needed quest items, though, either.

Oh - didn't realize. It's been awhile since I've played - Sorry...

I played this one a while ago but have moved on to other things since then. Right now I am replaying Diablo2 with a level 20 (so far) Assassin. I am currently clearing out the Harem in Lut Gholein, en route to the Arcane Sanctuary.

I don't think you can fix this with the minisaves

Deleting minisaves *will* fix this, but your solution is probably better.

At least it would mean not having to fight through the dungeon again. The problem with the movie is that Njam's door has to start closed. Deleting minisaves corrects that, but hacking the door property will accomplish the same thing without the total re-set.

This dungeon respawns the terrors every time you enter it

My fix needs resets the bad game keys caused by having tripped the trigger before you had the proper key. But I need you to talk to someone so I can update the keys. So, I picked Krohn to do the update. You'll have to fight some monsters again but not all of them. Many smaller creatures don't respawn after the first visit.

I wouldn't have wasted to time to write this fix if deleting the minisaves would have worked. I'm pretty sure that this problem was one of the three original game stoppers along with the "writ of fate" and "Bikki quest" problems. Perhaps your 1.3 patch can make the "delete minisaves" option work but I can't imagine how.
