MM9 won't run in XP. I know, I know, sorry to clog the board with this again.

I know there was a link here with solutions to all of the XP problems to all of the MM games. I just couldn't find it. My problem is that MM9 is loaded, but nothing happens when I run the game. I should have just left it on my hard drive while it was working. Sorry about this and thanks in advance for any help.

Are you getting an error message?

I'm surprised about not being able to run MM9. It's usually the older ones (MM1-MM8) that people have problems.

Some things you could try is to make sure you have the latest version of DirectX from Microsoft, the latest drivers for your video card, and any applicable sound card drivers up to date as well.

I'd try those first, but XP also has compatibility mode. Just right click on MM9, go to the compatibility tab and select Windows 2000 or 98 to see if that works or not.

Tried the compatability mode, have latest DirectX. Strange thing is that I can run MM1-8 no problem. n/t

Which icon? Do you get the launch box? The Lithtech box? An error message? Please give us the details.

When you double-click the desktop icon, does the cursor add an hourglass? If so, for how long?

Does the desktop icon point to the correct file and folder? Right-click and check that in properties.

Try launching the game by clicking on mm9.exe in your MM9 folder.

Have you upgraded your XP with SP2 ?

You can check this by right clicking "My Computer" and click properties.

    Thanks

...sound acceleration or onboard sound. If it's onboard sound then the only solution is to get a sound card, so let's hope it a problem with sound acceleration.

Launch dxdiag.exe (somewhere among your Windows folders -- do a search) and go to the Sound tab. Move the slider to the second position from the left and click OK. Try your game again and let us know. Thanks.
