I don't know if you've checked this, but I'm certain that you need to collect something essential to finishing the game from inside the tower on the Isle of Ash. I can't remember exactly what it is but I think I recollect somebody saying that in his game, raiding the place early caused problems. I may have got this wrong (it was many years ago) but have you completed the game after doing that early raid on the Isle of Ashes?
