GOG is selling the Ubisoft version. The Ubi version is actually an earlier NWC build of the game. None of the patches will work on it. However... CSHELL.dll is a library of routines to support the game. Mok fixed several problems that caused problems like you're having. Move your original CSHELL to a safe place and move Mok's version (link below) into the folder. Let us know if that fixed your problems.
