Original Message: Loading screen fixed! Alternative to the archive's broken link. |

I don't have the original files from megaupload. But I figured out what they contained and what to do. You need to delete some files contained in two of the .REZ files in the game folder. To do this you need a .REZ decompiler... thing. Follow these steps: -Get a .REZ file opener. I used WinRez LT by BlackAngel. You can google it to download. WARNING! My anti virus had a cow over WinRez. The .exe seemed shady. And it was very unstable and caused windows explorer to freak out. Though it did eventually solve the problem. I think it's a windows7 thing. If you use WinRez in windows7, be sure to run it as administrator. -Open the "data" folder in the game's install directory. Default: "C:\Program Files (x86)\3DO\Might and Magic IX\data" -Copy ART.REZ and LOCALART.REZ and back these files up somewhere else on your computer. Put them somewhere the game can't find them. Maybe even rename them. -Open your .REZ opener (WinRez) -With your .REZ opener, open the ART.REZ file that is in your game's install directory. -Navigate the file hierarchy to get to ART\LOADSCREEN then delete LOADINGBOAT-LEFT.PCX -Navigate the file hierarchy to get to ART\LOADSCREEN then delete LOADINGBOAT-RIGHT.PCX -Navigate to ART and delete NULL.PCX -Save the ART.REZ file. (This is where WinRez might be buggy. It eventually did finish saving the file but I needed to run the program as administrator.) -With your .REZ opener, open the LOCALART.REZ file that is in your game's install directory. -Navigate the file hierarchy to get to LOCALART\LOADSCREEN then delete LOADINGBG.PCX -Save the LOCALART.REZ file. This fixed the loading screen freeze up for me so I didn't have to alt/tab every 30 seconds. I'm probably never coming back to this thread to check on questions or whatever. So interested parties... please propagate this posting and respond to follow-ups. |
