There are all sorts of houses which are empty but for notes left on tables or floors, or left pinned to walls. I was quite amused by some of them.  That subterranean humour is one of the things I've always liked about the Might & Magic games; you can always find some corner where you can almost see the game-designer's tongue in his cheek.
