Try if You can start game through dxtweaker but with all boxes unchecked. Everytime I start game through tweaker I'm getting the same message as You,but screen proceeds normally to game intro,wchich is not displayed so I'm hitting ESC and everything is fine. The "mm9 has encontuerer...bla bla" is at desktop all the time.
