Your graphics system is having a hard time switching from 3D to 2D. This could be due to hardware, your drivers, the game's routines, or DirectX. The easiest to fix is the last, so let's address that one first. Go to Start -> Run and enter 'dxdiag'. Click on the Display tab. In the middle section there are three 'Disable' buttons.
