I dont know if anyone has tried this but It saved me from many reboots. If you can open windows task manager i.e. CTRL+ALT+DEL leave it open while you play the game. Place it in the top left corner of the desktop. If the game freezes between zones alt tab to the task man and kill mm9. When the game 'stop responding' you cant minimize it but you can bring other apps in front of it (most of the time). Sometimes you wont be able to see the task manager but if mm9 is the only one in the process list just feel for the buttons and listen for the sounds and you should still be able to close it.
