It sounds like you were already inside Arslegard when you had a crash. That means the gatekeeper had been "moved" to another spot (probably inside the Hall of the Gods) and is now gone from the gate. His location is stored in the savegame.MM9 file as well as in the minisaves. You've deleted the minisaves already. What you need to do now is delete the savegame.MM9 file and then reload using the savegame.HDR file. This will cause the game to totally rebuild Arslegard from scratch and the gatekeeper should be placed back at his starting location.
