You collect some darts in the earlier levels of the game. There was a room (on one of the drow levels, I think) where there were a lot of holes in the walls. I seem to remember that if you started putting the darts you found into those holes, eventually they would all disgorge one +5 dart. Later on, there was another place where there was some writing on one of the walls, and if you fired an arrow at it, you got a shield. I think that's right.
