I'm assuming that 1) you've got the correct CD in the drive and 2) you installed the game from this optical drive. If this is true then I suspect that the game is not fully compatible with the optical drive. An older drive would probably work better. It's also possible (but unlikely) that you've told the game to play music from the CD and the drive is set up for digital sound. The unlikely part is that the game couldn't handle that. I just don't know.
