-better balance between advancing in the game and gaining lvls
-monsters are tougher
-monsters drop better items
-more items, more runes and rune words
-skill synergies (pumping points lower in a tree gives bonuses to better skills - e.g. putting points into double swing increases double throw dmg in a barb)
-you can buy blue potions
