Before this I had spent more than 18 hours real-time on Anskram (not all in one go, but over several different sessions, coming back to it between other quests), walking, running, crawling, clicking on every inch of every wall for another hidden switch or hidden door. During my last attempt (today) I had my perception at Master level 17, had installed the patches, deleted the minisaves, once again crawled through every room of the interior, and up and down every stairway and catwalk of the exterior, clicking on every stone in the walls. All my other quests have been done long ago, only Anskram was keeping me from progressing in the game. So today was the game's last chance, the CD's were literally in the trashcan, when I decided to try an internet search for a solution and found you. So, thank you...:-)

Shoooting out the chains had actually occurred to me early on, but I was trying to shoot them on the outside. Hacked the with axes, shot them with arrows and spells. For some reason, didn't think to shoot out the inside portions of them.
