If you really wanted to do the clover trick for unlimited clovers, just do it before accepting any quests. Do Isle of Ashes and then take the boat to Sturmford. Grab the 2 clovers and exit town, save game, exit to main menu, alt-tab to desktop, find minisaves folder and delete all Sturmford references, then alt-tab back to game, load up save, and re-enter Sturmford. While I would never do this for clovers, as it would be monotonous, I did do it for skill scrolls. I still had to pay for every scroll, but I was able to buy every scroll that my initiates and fighters could use. Later I did this in another city to finish buying out all available skills that I hadn't found by exploration.
