Minisaves are created when you leave a map. They preserve your current status in that map for your later return. Quicksaves -- and normal saves -- save that information as well as the state of your overall game. So yes, the Minisaves folder should be in your MM9 folder along with Saves, data, EAL, Fonts, etc. There's a key for picking up things. I forget what it is right now.
