Your progress in the game relies on conpleting quests and killing monsters. Go to your quest log to find out what the game expects you to do. You should know that many minor bugs were left in MM9 because it was released prematurely. The fastest way to find these is to complete quests before being told to do them -- so do so at your own risk. I'm not as worried as Peter2 is about your game crashing. I think your installation just failed to make a folder, or perhaps it got deleted somehow. Don't be too concerned, but saving your progress more frequently than normal wouldn't hurt.
