Forad Darre (the man by the bridge), talk to him and he will tell you NOT to enter those ruins. You will have to go there later in the game. I personally never go there until my party is at least level 35 or 40. The chest is OK for a level 1 party, but that's all (unless you're one of the super expert players that say they can get all 6 chests with a level 1 party).
