Are you sure about uninstalling? What if you happen to find CD 2 - you might not be able to play again... I tried googling for "Compatibility Mode WIndows 2000 SP4" and found out how to use the tips given here on the Tavern. I now have the compatibility option available. It's still not working, though... I'll be re-installing Windows updates and stuff and try again later. I'll let you know the results. And thanks.
