You should get the initial install to work before applying the patch. Uninstall everything and re-install in Safe Mode. That might do the trick, but before you do...

There are two log files that might give us a hint as to what's going wrong. One is called 'Patchwise.log' and the other is...well, I forget. I'm not at home right now so I can't check. It will be in your MM9 folder and would have been created at the same time as 'Patchwise.log'.
