1) Party formation
You must enter the formation menu. Don't remember which key, look in the keyboard configuration to know which one you have set. You must stack characters per column, you cannot let a gap between each character in one column, but the game take care of filling your gaps. Also have a look to the nice piece of paper call "Manual". 2) Lich
You will get the promotion tag once you really have started the promotion quest for one of your scholars. Instructions will actually not start the promotion, keep going one and it will come.
