the guy in tavern will accept the task as done the next time you speak to him, no matter what - you might not have even entered the training hall at all and he would still think you did it - just because you are still alive (I've actually been given the quest, ended the conversation, immediately clicked on him again, and he assumes I have done it). I have (in the couple of times I've been thru this game) simply told him I did it (so he sends me to the monastery), and gone to clear out the hall later in the game. Usually because my levels aren't high enough to beat it yet (I try to visit all the cities early on to do as much as I can and collect all the quests, then I go back to the beginning and start finishing them all).
