You'll never gues what the cause was ... so I'll tell you. In Beet Hoven it was due to the three floating bottles. They each have a special property and the game engine can only keep track of one at a time without locking up TB mode. The same thing happens in the Lich Lab later in the game.

There's another cause of this problem that has to do with monster targeting. That's tied up with the AI and I'm working on that one -- or I was when I went on sabattical.
