There are so many rooms and cells on the various levels that it is easy to retreat into an empty one to rest and heal, before continuing the spree. Then you can loot at your leisure. Oh, one more thing - it is best to take the general out thru the front doors - I tried to take him out thru the well passageway and when I climbed down the trap door to the room where you climb up the well, he got stuck on my head (I guess I didn't move in time?) and I couldn't climb back out.
